Kevin Young

Director Olympic Production

Kevin Young began running internationally in the summer of 1986. He was a “walk-on” in his sophomore year at UCLA. By 1989 he would accomplish his dream of becoming a 1988 Olympian and becoming the world’s number (1) 400-meter hurdler.

After having a couple of injurious seasons by 1992 he was fast and unbeatable. He won all 10 of his races that year and dipped under the 48- second barrier eight times, a record in itself. All that hard work was in preparation for his record shattering performance at the 1992 Olympics.

Kevin literally destroyed the greatest 400-meter hurdle record at the time of 47.02 seconds. Kevin’s former world record of 46.78 seconds bettered the one by the legendary Edwin Moses. That year he was voted the U.S. top male Track and Field Athlete of the Year, as well as being awarded the first Track and Field ESPN Award.

He won the 1993 International Amateur Athletic Federation World Championships and established another championship record. He finished his career as a four-time NCAA national champion, a two-time Olympian, and Olympic and world record holder for almost three decades. In 2006, Young was inducted into the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame.
